London Trip

A huge thank you to everyone who was a part of the trip to London at the end of the Summer term.  The pupils have enjoyed the host of activities on offer immensely.  The show 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' was of an exceptional standard and that helped everyone to forget the lack of an evening meal before their arrival.  How wonderful it was to finally see the McDonalds menu even though it was 11pm!  Once again the world of Thorpe Park was fantastic and the warm weather really encouraged the enjoyment of water rides and splash activities.  Traffic in and around London was an absolute nightmare but all attendees showed willing to make last minute changes to the itinerary as necessary; another thank you for you cooperation and patience.  London 2016 here we come!Llundain gorff '15-23

‘Innocent as Strawberries’ is the famous and slightly odd simile from Dylan Thomas’ poem ‘The Hunchback in the Park’ and this was the title of the play that Year Nine Pupils from Dyffryn Teifi went to see at The National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth. They were also treated to a behind the scenes tour of the Library, even venturing down to the vaults.

The visit was completely funded by Theatr Arad Goch and The National Library of Wales. The pupils were mesmerised by the fast paced play that traced the lives of three teenage boys growing up in South Wales. It was a performance that traced the loss of innocence; it was not all serious, there were laughs aplenty too.

The tour of the Library was a complete eye-opener; the vast collections of books, magazines, newspapers, paintings, photographs and manuscripts were shown to the pupils. As you can imagine, some were kept under lock and key – the most valuable being an original Chaucer manuscript.

A great day out, enjoyed by pupils and staff.

Autumn Winning Poems

Here are the winning poems in a writing competition by the English Department this half term.  The pupils were inspired by the poem 'Ode To Autumn' written by the well known poet John Keats.

Thanks to all who competed and also to Year 13 English students for judging the poems.

English Trip to see 'The Hobbit'

About 200 pupils from years 7, 8, 9 and 10 visited the Mwldan Theatre at Cardigan in order to watch 'The Hobbit'.  Mrs Joy Jones from the English Department said 'It was a pleasure to take the pupils on tour'.  All present had enjoyed the film, which is being studied as a novel in year 9.

Year 9 Visit to Theatr Mwldan

Over a 100 pupils attended the trip to see an adaptation of their Key Stage 3 novel, 'Private Peaceful'.  The film is set in the trenches o World War One, and a suitable viewing for Remembrance Day.
