Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi

Oni heuir ni fedir

It was pleasing to see a large  number of prospective parents and pupils savouring a wide range of activities in our open evening on Monday.  During the evening there were stage performances by the junior choir and the senior ensemble as well as presentations by Elen Davies and Gwenyth Richards (Senior Prefects), Alice and Megan Raine and Jay Snow.  Not only did parents and pupils enjoy the buzz and enthusiasm of the current Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi, but many also took advantage of the opportunity to view the plans of the new 3-19 school, due to open its doors in September 2016.   The primary school pupils' enjoyment of the evening was tangible and we sincerely  hope that a large number of Monday evening's guests will become members of the Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi family in September.

Continued A Level Success

There was cause for celebration at Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi, following another year of very pleasing A Level results.  High standards have been maintained, with a 100% A Level pass rate and a most satisfying consolidation of the top grades awarded (91.5% A*-C).

Headteacher, Aeron Rees, said:

"For the university-bound students, it is gratifying to note that almost all have secured their first choice of Higher Education institution.  I would like to congratulate staff and students for working so avidly in order to realise these results - supported, as always, by parents, governors and the wider school community.  Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi wishes the class of 2014 every success towards the future."

A Level Success

A Level results at Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi have surpassed previous records, reflecting the continued upward trend in standards at the school.  The percentage A*/A grades attained have increased significantly, trumping last year's impressive results.  This, coupled with a 100% pass rate, have delighted staff and students alike.

There were a number of notable individual performances, with the following students amongst those rejoicing in the results:

Bethan Green from Blaenporth - 2A*, 2A

Rhian Davies from Llandysul - 1A*, 3A

Alun Rennolf from Blaenporth - 1A*, 2A, 1C

Osian Davies from Llandysul - 2A*, A

Siôn Roberts from Llandysul - 3A

In addition, Gwennan Davies (Brynhoffnant) managed A* grades in two A Level subjects, whilst a large number of other students attained 2As and a B.

Headteacher Aeron Rees said, "These excellent results are the culmination of a very conscientious collective effort throughout the course of study.  I am indebted to students, staff, governors, parents and the wider school community for working together in order to achieve these high standards."

It was pleasing to see the school represented at the Denbigh National Eisteddfod and to witness the success of a number of current and former pupils.  Warm congratulations to Meilir Ioan on winning the first prize in the individual dance competition on Tuesday and to Lois Thomas and Elen Jones on winning the duet for 12-26 year olds on Wednesday.  Fay Jones appeared twice on the Eisteddfod stage as an individual performer and gained two second prizes, in the solo recitation for 16-19 year olds as well as in the solo Scripture recitation for the same age group - quite an achievement.  The schools folk dancers, under the tuition of Mrs Eirlys Phillips,  also brought home two second prizes - in the under 25 folk dance party competition as well as in the competition for the Welsh National Folk Dancing Society's Trophy.  There were many familiar faces in the two choirs that were placed in the first and second positions in the choral competition on Sunday, as many members of Côr y Wiber and Bois Ceredigion are present or past pupils.  We extend our congratulations to Côr y Wiber and to their conductor Angharad Thomas (a former pupil) on winning the competition and to Bois Ceredigion, conducted by Mr Islwyn Evans (a singing teacher at the school) on coming second.   Congratulations to a recitation party from Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi and to their instructor Mrs Elin Williams for gaining a place on the Eisteddfod stage on Friday.  We would also wish to extend our congratulations to all former pupils who won prizes as individuals or who were choir members, instructors, conductors or broadcasters at the Eisteddfod.  We are always pleased to learn of our present and past pupils' success.
