Oxford scholarship for Fleur!

Congratulations to our Head Pupil for ensuring her place at Brasesnose University, Oxford.  Fleur who will be reading English and French has also received a scholarship to study the organ.

Fleurs' ambition to follow a career in directing or writing operas is a step closer as she secures her place at University.  As part of the scholarship she'll be entitled to her own piano and be expected to lead a choir of 40.  Fleurs' vast experience with the eisteddfod and the school choir on the piano will inevitably have prepared her well.

She has earned her Dip ABRSM for playing the piano and her interests include horse riding, which has ensured her a place on the British Team.  The European championships held in France has given her ample opportunities to become a fluent French speaker.

Fleur would like to thank her school teachers for preparing her for her future at Oxford and she is certain that her ability to speak three languages has helped in ensuring her place at University.  All the best Fleur!

Fly Fishing Champion

Name Trystan Davies

Year 11

When did you start? When I was 10 years old

What club ar you a member of? Llandysul

How often to you compete? Every weekend.  The main aim is to catch as many fish in 7 hours.  I'm very competitive and I love being under pressure.

Where have you been successful? England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland.

What have you caught? Trout - Rainbow and brown trout; although I once caught a 21 pound pike.  I had to release it back into the water.

Why did you start fishing? Since I was 10, I've enjoyed competing and although the equipment is expensive, I really enjoy fishing 7 hours at a time.  It's a great way to relax.

Best Golfer!

I've been playing golf since I was 8 years old.  I was taught by my grandfather.  He enjoys playing golf too, and he thankfully pays for my clubs.  I was fortunate this year to be chosen for the under 13's Dyfed boys team.  I played a tournament in Cardigan and won.  This weekend I'll be competing for a place in the Welsh squad.  I'm very excited and if all goes well I'll be over the moon to represent my country.  My hero at the moment is Rory McIlroy, he's immense!  I too will have to be calm and determined and not let nerves get the better of me.

Interview with Cerian Jones, Year 7

When did you first start showing Jersey cows?

I first started last year, after saving my birthday money to buy my own Jersey calf.

Who taught you?

My father taught me.  As a family we milk a herd of over 700 dairy cows.  I'm in my element helping my father, and every other weekend I get up at 3 in the morning to help with the milking.

Where have you competed this year?

I've been to Newcastle Emlyn show, Cardigan show, Lampeter show and Llandysul and I've won them all.

What are  your future aspirations?

In the future I hope to farm with my family.

Why do you enjoy it so much?

Showing cattle is a dream come true for me as I've always wanted to compete.  It's an excellent way to meet like-minded people.
